The Interview
My frequent collaborator Matteo Ugozzoni asked me to help design the second iteration of the Interview, a live-action, social deduction, and role-playing game for two to four players. The game explores themes of trust and vulnerability around our technological dependence and puts players in the middle of an absurd science fiction world. During the game, two players act as interrogators trying to uncover the identities of two other players who must answer a series of questions. At the same time, their vocal, heart, and stress patterns are recorded and analyzed.
The game is inspired by the work of Stanley Milgram, Philip K Dick, and the dystopic worlds of Terry Gilliam.
For the project, I helped redesign the game into a four-player experience and created or rebuilt the analysis modules and the game’s staging.
We were asked to show at the Interspaces Street Game Festival in Tartu, Estonia, as part of the celebrations of the city being named the EU’s capital of culture for 2024. We worked with the curator of the KGB Cells Museum to install the game into a sensitive historical space in a way that we thought honored its history and the museum’s mission.
